W

Wet stowage (for ammunition). A stowage system for the USA Medium Tank M4 series introduced from early 1944, indicated by a “W” suffix. Wet stowage incorporated a water filled compartment around the ammunition, reducing the risk of fire or explosion of ammunition after being hit, which was a problem with earlier models of the M4.
