Flags of the World. 20 January 2000. Available [Online]: <http://fotw.digibel.be/flags/> [12 September 2000]. A great site with a huge collection of contemporary and historical flags, and summaries of their historical significance – a wonderful place to spend your online time. The Austrian flag is by Carsten Linke; the Belgian, German, Japanese, Polish and Swiss flags are by António Martins; the British, Hungarian and Italian flags are by Zeljko Heimer; the Canadian flag has no author listed; the Czechoslovakian, French, Soviet and USA flags are by Mark Sensen; and the Danish and Swedish flags are by Edward Mooney, Jr. The original images were quite large and were reduced for use in the navigation bars while retaining the original colours and aspect ratio, which is why some of them are wider than others. The flags are those used in World War II for each nation; for example, the USA flag has only 48 stars. Flags of the World allows its images to be used for non-commercial, non-political and non-religious purposes provided the authors for each flag are acknowledged.

Fletcher, David. Mechanised Force: British Tanks Between the Wars. London: HMSO, 1991.
———. Mr. Churchill’s Tank. The British Infantry Tank Mark IV. Atglen, Pennsylvania: Schiffer Publishing Ltd., 1999. A very detailed and well researched book on the Churchill.
Gudgin, Peter. Armoured Firepower. The Development of Tank Armament 1939–45. Stroud, Gloucestershire: Sutton Publishing, 1997. A disappointing book, with little hard data. It is particularly frustrating that there is no armour penetration figures at all. There are further reviews on the Amazon.com web site.

Hogg, Ian V. Allied Artillery of World War Two. Ramsbury, Wiltshire: Crowood Press, 1998. This new edition has much less data in it and is more of a general history than a technical reference. The similarly named older edition British and American Artillery of World War Two, also by Hogg, is a better book to get.
———. British and American Artillery of World War Two. London: Arms and Armour Press, 1978. A comprehensive and detailed book. Make sure you get this older edition rather than the similarly named newer edition Allied Artillery of World War Two, also by Hogg.
———. German Artillery of World War Two. London: Greenhill Books Lionel Leventhal Ltd., 1997. A comprehensive and detailed book on every German infantry, mountain, field, heavy field, heavy, railway, anti-aircraft, anti-tank, coastal and recoilless artillery piece and ammunition. A vital reference.
Hunnicutt, R. P. Pershing: A History of the Medium Tank T20 Series. Berkeley, California: Feist Publications, 1971. A comprehensive and detailed book on the development of American Pershing tank. A large volume similar in scope and detail to Hunnicutt’s earlier work on the Sherman tank.
———. Sherman: A History of the American Medium Tank. Belmont, California: Taurus Enterprises, 1978. A comprehensive and detailed book on the development of American medium tanks, including pre-war developments, the M3 Lee/Grant and the M4. British versions are also covered. A huge volume, it is expensive but is the reference work for this family of vehicles.
