1. 3–in Gun Motor Carriage M10. Source: Hunnicutt, R. P.: Sherman: A History of the American Medium Tank. The first M10s were rushed to North Africa in early 1943. The Soviet Union received 52 M10s in the middle of 1943 and more may have been sent later; some sources state that in 1944 two anti-tank regiments of M10 were formed. Some units improvised armour protection for the turret roof. The M10A1 stayed in the USA and was converted into M36. Hunnicutt has 0° for the rear turret armour but I suspect a misprint. The M10 was based on the M4A2 chassis, the M10A1 was based on the M4A3 chassis. A total of 4,993 M10 and 1,713 M10A1 were built from September 1942 to December 1943. [up]
2. 90mm Gun Motor Carriage M36. Source: Hunnicutt, R. P.: Sherman: A History of the American Medium Tank. The first M36s were in Europe in August 1944. Some units improvised armour protection for the turret roof. The M36 was a modified M10A1, the M36B1 was the turret of an M36 on a M4A3 chassis, and the M36B2 was a modified M10. A total of 2,324 M36 were built from January 1944 to December 1944. [up]
