2. 15cm s I.G.33. Source: Hogg, Ian V.: German Artillery of World War Two. Hogg does not give a muzzle velocity for the Gr.39 Hl/A projectile, but the HE projectile has a muzzle velocity of 240m/s so it was probably similar to that. The Steil.Gr. was different from the Steil.Gr. of other weapons in that it was never intended as an anti-tank weapon, but for the demolition of strongpoints, the clearing of barbed wire obstacles and the breaching of minefields. Hogg quotes a maximum range of 1,000m which considering the tremendous weight of the projectile (90kg) seems to be too high. [up]
